Dianella Ski Lodge, Perisher Valley

Remodelling of one of the earliest 1960's ski lodges
1986 - 1987

Dianella is one of earliest 1960’s ski lodges in Perisher Valley. Originally, a simple single storey timber and plywood cabin with 4 little bunk rooms and a simple kitchen/dining area, it was extended to allow space for proper ski and sledges room with a new living room above it opening to a timber deck. The new first floor extension for two double bedrooms and a bathroom was designed to fit within a 45º roof space. A massive granite fireplace was placed in the centre marking the edges of the new and old. The internal finishes were carefully designed and crafted continuing the marine style of coachwood detailing of the original cabin. The external shapes, textures and colours were designed in response to the context of granite boulders, weathered snow gums and sloping meadows. The result is a successful example of contemporary architecture in a sensitive Alpine Environment.

The construction was managed by Rena in collaboration with John Fielding of Bellevarde Constructions.
